The following is going to sound contradictory, but I do not care.
Simply put, I will argue the case that you should be selfish and greedy when you are building yourself up. As in, pretty much, every single second of the day. Because, you are always building yourself up. Think about it. Every second of your day should be spent focusing on yourself. Not others. This is Exactly what the EV’s not want you to do, yet do it themselves.
Yes, you read that right.
The EV’s are so selfish and greedy that they use psychological tricks and ways of being condescending to let you down, make you feel silly and bad, and want you to spend all your Energy pleasing them.
Now, the greed and selfishness ain’t the bad thing here.
It is the way these two attributes are being used.
If you use greed and selfishness to block out time and resources (such as money) to work on yourself and your goals with the later intention to help others, that is a good thing.
And yes, I mean for example making more money so you can help out your friends and family financially and so on.
But in order to do that, you need to be ruthless with your time so you can make more money.
This is literally the inverse of what the EV’s are doing, since they mostly focus their time and Energy on other people, with the intention of stealing, cheating and conniving. Oftentimes they mask as the ‘good guys.’ And of course that makes you look like the bas guy.
‘Oh, you never have time for me’ or ‘You should think more about what other people want, too!’
These are typical comments that the EV’s Give out to bring you down.

EE: Energy Enabler. A positive, happy and uplifting person that makes you feel good and who wants you to succeed. They always cheer for you and they want to Believe in you. Makes you want to want to go around and affect other people in the same way. Often good looking and successful.
EV: Energy Vampire. Someone who brings you down mentally and psychologically. Often they attack you passive aggressively or they use your attention to make themselves feel good. Hardly or never compliments you. You feel like all life has been sucked out of you when you interact with them.
